Released in 1995, Freudian
Slip (with Jeff Kollman)
is a unique blend of bassist Kevin Chown's many different
musical influences, from jazz fusion to rock and
beyond. Since the album was recorded over an extended
period, you can hear Chown evolving musically in
the tracks that he finished later in the process
as opposed to the ones completed early on (see if
you can hear the evolution as well). The recording
features some incredible muscians including guitarist
Jeff Kollman (featured on seven tracks), guitarist
Sean Barrett (two tracks) and drummer Jerome Day
(six tracks). Upon its initial release, the CD received
great reviews in Bass Frontiers, Bassics, Bass Player,
Bass (Japan), Progression, and many other fine musical
publications. Chown produced the entire recording
in his home studio, which at the time was located
in his old apartment in downtown Detroit (recorded
on an old Tascam 1/2 inch 8-track - to spectacular
results!) Instrumental Guitar (Electric (Heavy)/Fusion),
total running time, 43:50
